TriAnglers Lunchtime Fishing

May 3 – September 27

Everyone is welcome to come fishing with this weekly lunchtime fishing group, the TriAnglers. Come help us celebrate Pittsburgh's clean rivers and great fishing opportunities right here in downtown Pittsburgh.

Venture Outdoors Trip Leaders will be on hand to help the novice and expert alike learn more about this great destination and possibly land a trophy catch. Equipment and bait is provided. A limited selection of adaptive fishing equipment is available; please contact the office for more information or questions. Pennsylvania Fishing License required for anyone 16 and older.

Registration is requested but not required. Venture Outdoors trip leaders will be assisting on this event

Healthy Birds, Healthy Planet

Meet with bird and field conservation experts to build your understanding of the importance of bird conservation to environmental health

You won’t want to miss this unique content-deepening session that brings you in direct contact with our birds and bird conservation experts.  Discover more about local and global conservation programs, scientific research, and education, and the integral role of the National Aviary in these efforts.  You’ll meet live birds who are ambassadors of their species, listen to their personal stories of survival, and explore the conservation efforts in place to protect them.

You’ll gain insight into how birds are indicators of environmental change, why birds may hold the key to our future survival, and what actions we can take today to nurture our environment.  You’ll return to your school or organization with grade-appropriate conservation education lessons and activities.

Cost: $100 includes lunch, classroom lessons and activities, live bird encounters and admission to the National Aviary

Super Science Saturday: Jurassic Day

June 17 @ 12 p.m.

Wander through our world-class Dinosaurs in Their Time exhibition hall, dig for fossils in Bonehunters Quarry, and take part in hands-on, dinosaur-themed activities! Meet reptiles from the museum’s living collection, check out Jurassic Park movie memorabilia, meet our Spinosaurus puppet, and watch Jurassic Park in the Earth Theater! Super Science Saturdays is a free program at Carnegie Museum of Natural History that allows visitors of all ages to explore a special theme through hands-on activities, experiments, demonstrations, discussions with museum experts, and more!

Twin Lakes Park Father’s Day Fishing Derby

June 18 @ 8:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free fishing derbies are held annually at Mammoth, Northmoreland and Twin Lakes Parks from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Trophies and prizes are awarded to both adults and youth, and a door prize drawing will be held for all registered participants. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and to be eligible for door prizes, all contestants must be registered by noon. All participants ages 16 and older must display a current fishing license. Good luck!

Jungle Odyssey

Members with a Dino Membership will be able to preview our new exhibit, Dinosaurs in the Pittsburgh Zoo, for 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Guests with a regular Zoo Membership are welcome to pay an additional fee to tour the Dinosaur exhibit from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Reservations are not necessary. Guests are welcome to attend with members at half price admission.

Bowling for Rhinos

Have a fun night out bowling and raising money for conservation! Bowling for Rhinos is a 26 year-old annual fundraising event held by over 80 local AAZK chapters across the country. All proceeds go directly to protecting thousands of species including Rhinos, Elephants, Cheetahs and also protecting their vital habitat. Details: Doors Open at 6:00 pm and Bowling is from 7pm to 9pm. Registration includes t-shirt, food, shoe rental and bowling. BFR funds support LWC- Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (formerly called Ngare Sergoi rhino sanctuary) in Kenya, Ujung Kulon National Park in Java, Indonesia and Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park (BBSNP) and Way Kambas in Sumatra, as wells as Action for Cheetahs in Kenya, which shares a portion of the land mass with LWC. These sanctuaries not only save rhinos (and cheetahs) but also entire ecosystems – orchids to elephants!

ZooBrew: Oktoberfest

September 8 @ 6:30 p.m.

Party with animals of the human-kind and enjoy an evening of food, music, and the best craft beer around.

Adventurers over the age of 21 receive three and a half hours of fantastically unique beer in a one-of-a-kind setting with food provided by Taste of the Wild Catering.

All guests receive a commemorative mug for sampling. Tickets quantities are limited, and must be purchased in advance on the Zoo's website.

Along with your ticket, guests must present a valid driver's license.

All tickets sales are available online only. Rain or shine event, no refunds.

Ticket prices are $63 per person, and will be available on August 4, 2017.

Flying Wild Teacher Workshop

September 23

Help connect kids to birds and nature while building their leadership skills

Flying WILD, a program of the Council for Environmental Education, is a service-learning tool for teachers, youth leaders, and environmental educators to engage students in hands-on learning, leadership development and conservation education.  The National Aviary is the program’s official City Partner for the Pittsburgh region.

With birds as the focus, you’ll gain hands on training in this unique curriculum and be connected to the live birds and resources of the National Aviary. Directed towards middle school, the curriculum can be easily adapted for all grade levels. You’ll return to your school or organization with a copy of the award-winning curriculum guide and a draft plan for incorporating the curriculum into your classroom.

$100 includes lunch, curriculum guide and training, live bird encounters and admission to the National Aviary.  The workshop runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. You can earn 5.5 Act 48 hours.
